How Oath Home Began

In 2019 my father-in-law retired from a thirty-year career as a supplier of soft furnishings to ultra-luxury residences. When the first lock down of 2020 started to lift he took me to his storage facility full of fine fabrics, beautiful silks, luscious velvets and many others; these incredible fabrics were all excess materials from some of his most recent years’ work. Half a roll of fabric here, some trimmings there, even whole rolls that had been returned after the client had a change of heart. Due the downsizing that comes with retirement, my father-in-law was unable to keep the fabrics and he wondered if I had any thoughts on what could be done to avoid it all going to landfill. That day the concept of Oath Home was born. The opportunity to bring these fabulous fabrics to life, to use the materials, to make decorative items for others’ homes, was too good to turn down. The idea around helping people who had fallen on hard times with the proceeds earned from fabrics that were first used in some of UK’s most opulent homes felt like we really closing the circle. This chance to build a social enterprise that combines my love for design with sustainability and a very powerful purpose was just too good to turn down.
